Houston Divorce Modifications

Houston Divorce Attorneys Experienced in Modifications to Divorce Agreements

Divorce agreements are not set in stone. Changes in circumstances can mean that modifications need to be made to arrangements of alimony, spousal support, child support, child custody and visitation. The Houston divorce lawyers of Nichols Law can quickly assess whether you have a substantial case for modification and, if so, can aggressively represent your interests in court.

In Texas, any changes to custody arrangements can be made by the court, provided that the party making the motion shows that situations have changed and that modifications would be in the best interests of the child. For example, if the parent with custody has been involved in illegal activity, a new custody arrangement may be necessary.

The Texas Family Code contains provisions for bringing parents back to court to revise child support arrangements. Such modifications are not made lightly; for example, if the non-custodial parent (that is, the parent not having custody) gets a higher-paying job after the divorce, the custodial parent is generally not entitled to more payment.
